Kugamon vs Zuora

Zuora is a billing-first platform that connects to Salesforce. Kugamon runs quoting, subscriptions, invoicing and payments inside Salesforce on one data model.

The short answer

  • You rate usage at high volume, run multi-entity finance, or need ASC 606 revenue recognition as a finance-owned subledgerZuora. Zuora Billing and Zuora Revenue are built for that scale and depth.
  • Salesforce is your system of record and you want one catalog, one data model and renewals that show up as pipelineKugamon. Quotes, subscriptions, invoices and payments are Salesforce records in one managed package — nothing to sync.
  • Cost and time to value decide itKugamon publishes $95–$125 per user per month for its subscription editions with a fixed implementation fee, and a Zuora migration typically runs 6–10 weeks. Zuora does not publish pricing.

Where Zuora is the better fit

Saying this plainly is what makes the rest of the page credible.

  • Usage and consumption rating at scale. Zuora Billing has built-in mediation and rating; Zuora states 200,000 usage events per second, 400,000+ invoices per hour and 40+ payment gateways. Kugamon does not include a usage-rating engine.
  • Revenue recognition. Zuora Revenue automates all five steps of ASC 606 and IFRS 15 as a finance-owned subledger with SSP allocation. Kugamon's Revenue Management add-on creates monthly Revenue records for reporting; it is not a revenue subledger.
  • Multi-entity, global finance depth. Account hierarchies, multi-currency, e-invoicing and tax compliance through Sovos and Avalara connectors, and pre-built ERP connectors to NetSuite, Workday and others. Large finance organizations that live in Zuora rarely touch the CRM, and Zuora is built for them.
  • Track record at enterprise volume. Zuora reports $96 billion in transactions processed annually and says it was named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Recurring Billing Applications.

One system or two

Zuora's own billing page describes where it sits: between your CRM and your general ledger, as a billing subledger, with pre-built connectors to Salesforce CPQ and HubSpot CPQ and its own Zuora CPQ package for quoting inside Salesforce. That is a coherent design for a large finance organization, and it means running revenue across two systems: a product catalog maintained in Zuora and synced to Salesforce, a Quote that is a Zuora custom object, subscriptions that live in Zuora Billing, and a sync layer that has to be right for a Salesforce report to be right. Kugamon runs the same lifecycle on one data model inside the org. Releasing an Order creates the Contract, Subscriptions, Invoices and the future renewal Opportunity as Salesforce records related to the same Account, so the catalog sales quotes from is the catalog billing invoices from, and the renewal book is pipeline rather than a billing-system report. Read the Zuora migration guide for the step-by-step.

What finance should inventory before deciding

Most of the difference between these two products is depth you may or may not use. Before comparing feature lists, pull the billing behaviors your team has actually exercised in the last 90 days: billing frequencies, proration rules, payment methods, dunning steps, revenue schedules, entities and currencies. If the list includes rating usage events at volume, ASC 606 allocation across bundles, or invoicing from several legal entities, Zuora Billing and Zuora Revenue are built for exactly that and Kugamon is not the right choice. If the list is recurring invoices, proration on expansions, card and ACH payments, past-due follow-up, renewals with uplifts and ARR reporting, that is what Kugamon's Subscription Billing edition does natively, at a published price, configured by the Salesforce admin you already have.

Compared Kugamon to Zuora and it was a no-brainer

“Kugamon, Kuldip, and his entire team have been incredible from pre-sale all the way through post-sale. The pre-sales presentation was by far the best demonstration I received from any vendor so kudos to Sahn and Jazz on their level of professionalism. After we negotiated and started implementation, I was worried that the staff was too small to handle all of the numerous questions that my org would throw at them but to my pleasant surprise, Kuldip and his team responded quickly and made sure our questions resolved ASAP. I'm so glad I didn't go with Zuora who ended but trying to use a scare tactic to reconsider them after we told them we went with Kugamon. It speaks to their sales approach and like I said, I am very glad we went with Kugamon.”

Great Product, Great Team !!!

“Jobscience is a Salesforce ISV that builds and sells Recruiting Solutions on the Salesforce Platform. After researching the AppExchange and considering options such as Zuora, SteelBrick, and Apttus, we selected Kugamon. There are many reasons why we made this choice but what convinced us was 1) the overwhelmingly positive feedback we received from current customers of Kugamon such as IBM and Five Star Professional, and 2) as a Salesforce ISV that is committed to the Salesforce Platform, it was important to us to find an app that leverages Best Practices on Salesforce. We currently use Kugamon and its Subscription & Renewal Management function to meet our business needs and have been pleased with the results. Kugamon understands that every business is unique and has been there every step of the way during our complex implementation. Each time we have had a question or issue, their Support Team has called back almost immediately to help us address our concerns which has always reassured us that we are in good hands. In fact, there are times the Kugamon Support team is available so quickly to help resolve our questions that I have to ask them to wait until later when we are able to spend time working with them on the issue. With Kugamon, we have reduced our quoting cycle time by approximately 45 minutes per quote, simplified and removed significant numbers of unnecessary products from our price book, automated our renewals, improved our pipeline visibility, resolved complications working with foreign currency, and gained better insight into our outstanding receivables -- in addition to improvements we have achieved on many other critical business processes. I would highly recommend Kugamon to any business, especially those committed to the Salesforce Platform. The quality of their App and lighting fast customer support make them a pleasure to work with.”

Common questions

Kugamon vs Zuora — FAQ

All questions →

No. Zuora is a billing platform that runs outside Salesforce. Its Salesforce presence is Zuora CPQ, a managed package named Zuora Quotes whose Quote is a custom object linked to the Opportunity, and 360 Sync, which copies subscriber and billing data into Salesforce. The product catalog is maintained in Zuora and synced in; invoicing, rating and payments run in Zuora. Kugamon's billing engine runs on Salesforce objects in your org, so the catalog sales quotes from is the catalog billing invoices from.

Kugamon publishes its prices: $95 per user per month for Subscription Management, $125 for Subscription Billing, with a fixed implementation fee. Zuora does not publish list pricing; its product pages route to a sales conversation. Compare three-year total cost — license, implementation, the second admin surface and the integration someone maintains — with every Zuora figure labeled as an estimate in the ROI calculator.

Inventory the billing behaviors used in the last 90 days first. Recurring invoices, proration on expansions, payments and saved payment methods, past-due follow-up built in Flow, renewals with price uplifts, and ARR, MRR and TCV roll-ups are covered natively. Usage rating at volume, ASC 606 revenue recognition as a subledger and multi-entity finance are Zuora's strengths, and if they are central to your requirement Zuora is the better fit.

For mid-market deployments moving to Salesforce-native billing, 6–10 weeks is a realistic range: a week-zero inventory, the catalog rebuilt on the standard Price Book, active subscriptions loaded, one or two billing cycles run in parallel and compared line by line, then payments and dunning cut over last. Invoice history usually stays in Zuora as a read-only archive rather than being migrated.

When your finance organization runs billing from Zuora and rarely touches the CRM, when you meter and rate consumption at very high volume, when you need Zuora Revenue for ASC 606 and IFRS 15 automation, or when multi-entity, e-invoicing and tax compliance across many countries define the requirement. Kugamon is a better fit for Salesforce-centric teams paying enterprise-platform prices for mid-market billing needs.
