Kugamon vs Nue
Nue's CPQ runs in Salesforce, but its billing, usage and self-serve engines run on Nue's AWS platform. Kugamon keeps quotes, orders, subscriptions, invoices and payments in your org.
The short answer
- You sell SaaS or AI with usage, credit or commit pricing, and self-serve checkout matters as much as rep-led quotingNue. Credit-and-commit burndown, Nue Metering and its self-serve Commerce APIs are built for that model.
- Salesforce is your system of record and you want invoices, payments and subscriptions in the org as well as quotes and ordersKugamon. Every quote-to-cash record is a Salesforce record on one data model in your org, with no off-platform engine and no asynchronous sync.
- Cost and time to value decide itKugamon publishes $65–$125 per user per month with a fixed implementation fee, and a move from Nue typically takes 3–6 weeks. Nue publishes one figure, 'starting at $90 per user per month' on its AppExchange listing; platform fee, add-on modules and implementation are quoted.
Where Nue is the better fit
Saying this plainly is what makes the rest of the page credible.
- Usage, credits and commits. Nue rates usage in real time and runs prepaid credit pools and committed-spend burndown with true-ups, a feature it launched in March 2026 and developed with AI and SaaS companies including OpenAI. Nue Metering, launched in September 2026, rates usage events against the signed deal's terms; Nue says it handles more than 25.9 billion events a month. Kugamon supports usage billing with minimal customization, but has no metering or rating engine at that scale.
- Self-serve and product-led channels. Nue's Commerce APIs run in-app trials, upgrades and checkout from the same catalog and pricing as its CPQ, so a self-serve purchase and a rep-led quote are priced the same way. If self-serve volume matters as much as your sales team's, Nue is designed for that mix.
- The standard Quote and Order objects. Nue's CPQ writes to Salesforce's standard Quote and Order, which some AppExchange tools and existing reports already expect. Kugamon runs on the standard Product, Price Book, Contract and Asset, with its own Quote and Order objects.
- AI built around its MCP server. Nue AI runs on the Nue MCP server with models from OpenAI, Claude and Gemini, and creates renewals, amendments and quantity updates from a prompt under the rep's Salesforce permissions. In September 2026 Nue added quoting inside ChatGPT and Claude.
- References among AI companies. Nue's homepage shows OpenAI and Anthropic among its customers, and OpenAI went live on Nue's CPQ in eight weeks (April 2025). If your peers are AI and consumption-priced software companies, Nue has references in your market.

Both quote in Salesforce; billing is the difference
Nue and Kugamon both put quoting inside Salesforce, and reps in either never leave Lightning to build a quote. The difference starts after the order. Nue describes itself as a dual-platform system: its CPQ is a managed package in your org, and its billing, invoicing, usage-rating and self-serve engines run on Nue's AWS platform, which its API documentation says works on a replicated copy of the Nue data model and syncs changes back asynchronously. That design is deliberate, because it lets one engine serve rep-led quotes, in-app purchases and high-volume metering. With Kugamon, releasing an Order creates the Contract, Subscriptions, Invoices and the renewal Opportunity as Salesforce records related to the same Account, and payments post to Payment records in the same org. A report on invoices, a Flow on a failed payment or an Agentforce question about a customer's balance reads the record itself, not a copy that is as current as the last sync. See what native means for the definition we use.
Match the product to your revenue mix
Most of the choice comes down to how you sell. List where last year's revenue came from: subscriptions sold by reps, one-time products and services, bundles, usage and credits, and self-serve purchases. If usage, prepaid credits and committed spend dominate, and a large share arrives through your product rather than your sales team, Nue is built for that mix and its references are AI and consumption-priced software companies. If reps sell a blend of subscription, one-time and services revenue, and finance wants invoices, payments and renewals reported in Salesforce, Kugamon's Subscription Billing edition covers that natively, at a published price, configured by the Salesforce admin you already have.

Partly. Nue's CPQ is a Salesforce managed package that uses the standard Quote, Order, Opportunity, Product and Price Book, and Nue says Salesforce is the system of record. Its billing, invoicing, usage-rating and self-serve engines run on Nue's AWS platform against a replicated copy that syncs back asynchronously. Under the strict definition — every revenue object a Salesforce record, with no external system of record or sync layer — it is not fully native. Kugamon runs quoting, subscriptions, invoicing and payments on Salesforce records in your org. See what native means.
No. Kugamon runs on the standard Product, Price Book, Contract and Asset, and keeps quotes and orders in its own Quote and Order objects (namespace kugo2p), synced to Opportunity Products. They are Salesforce records in your org, so native reports, Flows and Agentforce work on them directly. Nue writes to the standard Quote and Order; the difference between the two products is less about the quote and more about where invoices, usage and payments are processed.
Kugamon publishes its prices: $65 per user per month for CPQ, up to $125 for Subscription Billing, with a fixed implementation fee. Nue publishes one figure, 'starting at $90 per user per month' on its AppExchange listing; platform fee, add-on modules and implementation are quoted. On our 50-user, three-year model, Nue comes to about $435,500 against about $143,500 for Kugamon CPQ. The Nue figures are estimates: licence and implementation are the midpoint of the low and high cases in our October 2026 competitor research, and admin is our estimate rather than $0; run your own numbers in the ROI calculator.
Typically 3–6 weeks, at the short end of our migration ranges, because Nue's quotes, orders, Products and Price Books are already Salesforce records. The main work is exporting billing, usage and subscription history from Nue, reconciling it with the Accounts and Products in your org, and rebuilding Nue price tags and plugins as Kugamon pricing. The Nue migration playbook has the steps.
When you are a SaaS or AI company whose revenue is mostly usage, credits or committed spend, when self-serve checkout carries as much volume as your sales team, or when you want the same pricing engine behind your product and your quotes. Kugamon is a better fit for teams that sell a mix of subscription, one-time and services revenue through reps and want every invoice and payment in Salesforce.
